Gone are the dusty and dirty gray cemented floors and the hot and humid work environment commonly associated with manufacturing careers.  Today, manufacturing has a new appeal and particularly in Brevard County, which host the largest number of manufacturing companies in the state of Florida.  One such company, Mack Technologies of Melbourne, FL, opened their doors to a group of students associated with the Pastors Community Alliance of South Brevard.  The students are preparing for a manufacturing career and will be training for an entry level position in manufacturing as early as June 1, 2015.  Their program of study will be Certified Technician Production (CPT), which is an intense ten-week, online program offered at Eastern Florida State College.  As part of their preparation for the training, Susan Badgio from the corporate office of Mack Technologies, offered to provide the students a facility’s tour, which was first-hand exposure to the manufacturing industry for most of the students.

Mack Technologies presented the “new” look for manufacturing careers in the 21st century.  True to their word, Mack Technologies opened their doors to a student tour on May 8, 2015.  The facility was clean; operations were organized by specialty, and it was extremely spacious.   The facility was well ventilated and comfortably air-conditioned throughout the building. The lab-coat employees appeared to be very focused and content with their career choice.  Throughout the tour Ms. Badgio addressed how the CPT certification could be used as an entry level position within her facility.   In addition to touring this huge facility that appeared to be much smaller on the outside, Ms. Badgio hosted a board room conversation with employees who are recent graduates of the CPT program.  The employees shared their classroom experiences and answered the barrage of rapid fire questions.  The conversation with the graduates was engaging, enlightening and in summary a huge success.   For over an hour, the employees answered every question and provided memorable examples of what to expect from the CPT classroom experience.  The facility tour appeared to reinforce the commitment of the future CPT students.  As the Pastors Community Alliance group left Mack Technologies, spirits were high with the possibility of one-day becoming an employee within Brevard’s manufacturing industry.   Harris Corporation is also hosting a facility tour for this same group of students on May 22, 2015.  The tour guide for Harris Corporation, Mike Ennis, will also be the lab instructor once classes begin.
